  • I finished this book four days before the death of the author, Jerry Bridges. Upon finishing this book I thought to myself, “I’m glad that such a saint is alive and with us.” Of course Jerry Bridges has been promoted to glory and in heaven. I am glad that by God’s grace and providence He ordained Jerry Bridges to author this book. This book has become one of my favorite book on how the Gospel fuel our sanctification and currently is my recommendations to those struggling with holiness.Th [...]

  • A no nonsense explication of the Gospel. Basic and foundational in nature, but profound and succinct. Recommended as an excellent primer on the Gospel message for those interested in Christian faith - as it explains why it is the power of salvation for all who believe. One key take away (not original with Bridges, but still of vital importance) is that the Gospel is for sinners - and since we are all sinners (Christians and non-Christian alike) we believers especially are to preach the Gospel to [...]

  • THIS BOOK IS SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! • Bridges does four things in this book that I loved: (1) upheld the holiness of God to its proper place, (2) emphasized the sinfulness of sin; our best deeds on our best days are like polluted garments, (3) made much of the "great exchange" of the gospel as the only hope; that is, the gospel is more than forgiveness, it is also the positive righteousness given to us in Christ, and (4) revealed that transformation is a synergistic work of the Spirit AND man. There is one recurring theme throughout [...]

  • Jerry Bridges is the writer of one of my favorite Christian books, one I gave to all my children to read, Trusting God. This book explores the relationship between grace and works. It is a balanced, encouraging book.

  • This well written book provides a solid, practical look at what sanctification and growth in Christ looks like and how to strive towards it by the Transforming Power of the Gospel.

  • Another great book from Jerry Bridges, in which he makes clearer perhaps than previously that the Gospel is the power behind our sanctification.

  • Great recap of the power of the Gospel and seeking God’s will. The first few chapters had the most meat for me. Good to refresh and rehear again and again the power of the gospel. I learned a lot.

  • This study goes so well with his other books. I am glad I have them in my kindle to refer to and to find strength in. As the title says, there is transforming power in the gospel and in turn is becoming more conformed to the image of Christ. This occurs when a growing understanding of the holiness of God and it's implications. A growing sensitivity to remaining sinfulness and concurrent realization of failure to more fully express the fruit of the spirit in one's life. A desire to grow in Christ [...]

  • I was very impressed by this book. If I were to summarize this book, it would be to discuss what it means and what it looks like to be transformed by the Gospel. At the end of the book, there are 7 areas that the author asserts show a true transforming work of the Gospel in your life. It walks through the nuts and bolts of what it means to be transformed. Transformed from what? Transformed into what? Who is doing the transforming? What is my part? I was pleased with the examination it produced. [...]

  • Another outstanding book by Jerry Bridges. He has a way of writing in a clear and straight to the heart style and I have been greatly blessed by his books over the years. Mr. Bridges makes a statement that keeps coming to my mind over and over how we can say we believe in salvation by grace alone but live as if our works play a part. It is all of grace and I need the help of the Holy Spirit to understand and apply the truths of the Bible correctly. I can have an intellectual understanding , but [...]

  • By his own admission, Bridges isn’t treading any new ground. However he is treading some very important ground, exploring the gospel and its implications for the ongoing transformation of the Christian life. Bridges carefully and attentively walks his readers down the well-trod paths of the foundational truths of the gospel. Only then does he proceed to blaze a trail down the oft-confusing road of personal transformation. Bridges admirably handles this necessary teaching with accessibility and [...]

  • Jerry Bridges writes a wonderfully simply and clear message that relates the gospel to our daily lives. He moves through the gospel and explains how our righteous standing before God leads us to gratitude which motivates obedience. He explains the role of the spiritual disciplines in the Christian life and never forgets the powerful role of the Holy Spirit who provides the power for holy living. This book may not present anything startlingly new but the fresh presentation of these truths will pr [...]

  • Another great book by Jerry Bridges. Bridges points out that the gospel is not only important in our salvation, but also in our Christian growth. After we are saved, we are required to put on Christ and to become like Him. Believe me, this is an all life work that helps us grow in the knowledge of our Savior. Because of sin and Satan, this will occupy us until the return of Christ, or we die to go to be with Him. All Christians need to read this book to help them to become more like Christ, whic [...]

  • Brilliant book on the relationship between the Gospel and the pursuit of holiness. Without the assurance that we are forgiven and justified we will not be motivated or may even be to fearful to pursue holiness.Bridges also discusses the concept of dependent responsibility. We are totally dependent on power of the Holy Spirit to grow in Christ-likeness and the Holy Spirit also enables us to fulfill our responsibility in pursuing holiness and rejecting sin.

  • I'm a big fan of Jerry Bridges. His book, The Discipline of Grace, meant a lot to me when I was in college and this book brought back fond memories of what I learned from it. I appreciate his idea of "dependent responsibility" and his gospel-centeredness. The church would be much healthier if more followed his approach to discipline.

  • This book is really a summary of what Mr. Bridges teaches in his other books with a special emphasis on how the gospel motivates and enables spiritual transformation. This is great book to read if you're unfamiliar with Mr. Bridges work and will whet your appetite for more. However it is repetitive if you are familiar with his work.

  • Classic Bridges with new depths of his humility and insight. If you've read Transforming Grace, Growing Your Faith, The Disciplines of Grace, and The Gospel for Real Life (as I have), you'll find a lot of common themes -- but ones we should grow tired of hearing and rehearsing. So, I'd highly recommend it.

  • This is an excellent, convicting, and encouraging book. The author makes much of Jesus and causes the reader to come away from his or her reading with a greater passion for holiness and for living life as a constant expression of love and gratitude to Him.

  • Jerry Bridges makes a convincing argument for applying the Gospel to transforming our life in likeness with Christ. This book has challenged me to look at how I view the Gospel of Christ in application to my everyday walk.

  • This was a book written along basically along the lines of Dr. Hunts book. It was a good book for someone to read if they are seeking to make Christ supreme in their life. The book stresses the Holiness of God and the Sinfulness of our Sin.

  • A great summary of what Bridges has taught about sanctification in many different books. Good place to start.

  • A solid balance of our total dependence on God versus our responsibility to actively yield to His sanctifying work.

  • Excellent! Worth your time and worthy of at least a couple of re-reads. Nothing new, but an important reminder of what we have in Christ- God acceptance!

  • Basic, no-nonsense book on what the gospel is and why it's important. I almost wish I would have just read a puritan book on this subject, which he quotes from quite a bit, but it's still very good.

  • Bridges' in pure and simple language shows that the gospel is more than an altar call, it is the power of God to change a life every day, all day, all life long.

  • Muy tremendo y práctico en la forma en que presenta las verdades del evangelio. Muy recomendable y no muy diferente de lo que ya ha escrito en otros libros.
